About Drawer Cabinets

Shelving works until the items get small. Put fittings, fasteners, inserts, and hand tools on an open shelf and they end up in unlabeled bins stacked two deep, where finding one part means unstacking the rest. A drawer cabinet fixes that by giving each drawer a shallow footprint you can scan in one look, behind a door that locks. The trade is floor space against retrieval time, and in a tool crib or maintenance shop the retrieval time usually wins.

Drawer and Shelf Combination Cabinets

Most of our Durham drawer cabinets are 12-gauge steel bodies 24 inches deep and 78 inches tall, offered 36, 48, 60, and 72 inches wide. These combine drawers with adjustable shelves in one cabinet, so the drawers hold small parts while the shelf section takes boxes, cans, and taller stock. Drawer counts run 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 depending on how the interior is split, and each drawer is rated 400 pounds. Shelf capacities on this line range from 1,200 to 1,900 pounds per shelf. One 48 inch model uses slide out shelves rated 400 pounds each and a pegboard door panel for hanging tools inside the cabinet.

High Density Small Parts Drawer Cabinets

For fasteners, terminals, o-rings, and anything else you buy by the hundred, we carry a 34 by 17-3/4 by 68-3/8 inch cold rolled steel cabinet with 90 individual drawers, each 5-7/16 by 17-3/4 by 3-3/16 inches. One drawer per part number, all of it in about two and a half feet of wall. This is the format that replaces a wall of loose bins in an electrical, hydraulic, or fastener crib.

Mobile Drawer Cabinets

If the parts need to travel to the work instead of the other way round, we carry a 14-gauge mobile drawer bench measuring 30-1/4 by 66-3/8 by 33-7/8 inches with a steel work surface, 8 drawers in three depths of 4, 6, and 7-7/8 inches, and a 2,000 pound overall capacity. It rolls on 6 by 2 inch phenolic casters, two rigid and two swivel, so it tracks straight down an aisle instead of wandering.

Choosing a Drawer Cabinet

Count your part numbers first, because that sets drawer count more than anything else. Then look at what goes in each drawer: heavy stock wants fewer, deeper drawers, while small hardware wants more shallow ones. Decide whether you need shelf space in the same cabinet for items that will never fit a drawer. Last, check the width against your wall run, remembering the doors need clearance to swing. Every listing states the gauge, dimensions, drawer quantity, shelf count, and capacities.
