About Gas Cylinder Cabinets and Racks

Cylinders are heavy, awkward, and full of stored energy, and the equipment on this page exists to keep them contained and anchored rather than free to fall or roll. The two product families here do that in different ways, and they are not interchangeable.

LP-Gas Cylinder Cabinets

These are LP-gas cylinder cabinets, with approval listings for OSHA 1910.110 and NFPA 58. They store cylinders horizontally on three shelves, holding 12 or 16 cylinders depending on model. The 16-cylinder cabinets are specified for 20 and 33 lb. LPG cylinders, and the 12-cylinder cabinet is rated for cylinders up to 50 lb. If your application is propane exchange, refill cages, or LP cylinder staging, this is the right family.

Cabinet Construction

Cabinets are built from angle iron and expanded metal with a 14 gauge top and bottom, so the enclosure stays open to air while remaining a physical barrier. All are finished in gloss yellow powder coat. Closure is by padlock hasp, with one model using self-closing doors, and the feet are punched with lagging holes so the cabinet can be anchored to the slab.

Vertical Cylinder Racks

The racks do the opposite job: they stand cylinders upright in the open and restrain them there. Each holds 4, 6, or 8 cylinders up to 11 inches in diameter and ships with concrete anchors and retention chains, so the cylinders are both anchored to the floor and chained against tipping. Racks are built from 3 gauge steel tubing in black textured powder coat, with approval listings for OSHA, OSHPD, and UFC.

Choosing Between a Cabinet and a Rack

Ask two questions. First, do you need a locking enclosure, or is anchored restraint in the open sufficient for your location? Second, how many cylinders and at what size? Cabinets give you a secured, ventilated enclosure and higher counts for LP cylinders; racks give you vertical restraint with chains and anchors for a smaller number of larger diameter cylinders. Each listing states its own capacity, cylinder type, storage orientation, and approval listings.
