About Hydraulic Power Packs

A hydraulic power pack pairs a gas engine with a hydraulic pump, reservoir, and controls in one portable frame. Connect hoses to a hydraulic tool and you have full hydraulic capability without a skid steer, excavator, or truck-mounted system tying up a machine and an operator. For utility crews, rental fleets, landscapers, and contractors, it is often the difference between doing the work and not being able to reach it.

Pressure and Flow, and Why Both Matter

Hydraulic tools are rated for a pressure in PSI and a flow in GPM, and both have to be satisfied. Pressure determines the force available; flow determines speed and how continuously the tool can run. A unit with plenty of pressure but insufficient flow will run a tool sluggishly and can overheat it. Our range spans 900 to 3,000 PSI and 5 to 14 GPM, so start from your tool spec rather than the engine on the label.

The Hydra Buddy Series

The Hydra Buddy models are the compact end of the line, from a 900 PSI 7 GPM unit on a Honda GX160 up to 2,000 PSI units on GX270 and GX390 engines. They suit crews running a single tool who need something one or two people can move and load without equipment.

Recoil Start and Electric Start

Recoil start units are simpler, lighter, and have one less system to maintain, with no battery to keep charged. Electric start earns its place when the unit gets started repeatedly through the day, when it sits in an awkward position for pull-starting, or on the larger GX630 powered units where recoil starting a big engine gets old quickly.

Choosing a Hydraulic Power Pack

Write down the PSI and GPM of every tool you intend to run and size to the most demanding one, allowing headroom rather than sitting at the limit. Consider whether you will ever run two tools at once, which changes the flow requirement entirely. Then weigh portability against capability, since the higher-output units are heavier. Each listing states pressure, flow, start type, and engine.
