Fewer shelves means taller openings between them, which is what you want for drums, large containers, bagged material, or tall boxes. More shelves means more separated levels in the same footprint, which suits small cartons, parts, and consumables where stacking deep just buries things. An 8 shelf cabinet in a 72 by 24 by 78 inch body holds a lot of distinct items without you having to dig.

Adjustable Versus Fixed Shelving

Many of these cabinets use adjustable shelves that reposition on the interior standards, so you can set the openings around what you actually store and change them later when your inventory changes. That flexibility matters when one cabinet has to hold mixed sizes. Fixed shelf models trade that adjustability for a simpler, rigid interior. Sizing the Cabinet to Your Space

Widths here are 36, 48, 60, and 72 inches, depths are 18, 20, 24, and 30 inches, and heights run 66, 72, 76, 78, 81, and 84 inches. Measure the wall or aisle you are filling first, then confirm the doors have room to swing clear. Deeper 30 inch cabinets hold more per shelf but make items at the back harder to reach, so a shallower 18 or 20 inch cabinet is often the better call for small parts and frequently used supplies. If you have low overhead or need to fit under a mezzanine or ductwork, the 66 and 72 inch heights are the ones to look at.
