About Rolling Bridge Jacks

A rolling bridge jack, sometimes called a rolling jack or a sliding jack, is the accessory that makes a four post lift useful for wheels-off work. It bridges the gap between the two runways and rolls along them, so you can position it under either axle and lift the vehicle clear of the deck. Without one, a four post lift can only do work that leaves the tires loaded, which rules out brakes, tires, wheel bearings, and most suspension jobs.

Air Over Hydraulic Operation

Most of the jacks here are air over hydraulic. Shop air drives the hydraulic pump, so raising the jack is a matter of holding a control rather than working a handle, and the jack holds on mechanical locks once it is up. That speed matters when a jack gets used dozens of times a day in a tire or brake bay. Check that your compressor supplies the pressure the jack calls for before ordering.

Capacity Range

We stock rolling bridge jacks from 3,500 lb up to 15,000 lb. The lighter 3,500 lb units cover cars and light trucks and are common as a second jack on a passenger car lift. The 6,000 lb, 7,000 lb, and 8,000 lb Atlas models cover the bulk of general repair work on trucks and SUVs. The Triumph RJ-15 at 15,000 lb is built for heavy duty lifts and larger commercial vehicles. Remember the jack only lifts one end at a time, so you are sizing against axle weight rather than gross vehicle weight, but leave margin.

Rolling Versus Sliding Bridge Jacks

Rolling bridge jacks ride on the top of the runways on their own carriage and can be pushed anywhere along the length of the lift. Sliding bridge jacks, like the Atlas RJ35 and the versions supplied with several Atlas four post lifts, run in a channel or track that is part of the lift. They are not interchangeable, so the deciding factor is what your lift is built to accept, not which style you prefer.

Matching a Jack to Your Lift

Compatibility is the part people get wrong. Runway spacing, runway width, and the rail profile all determine whether a given jack will seat correctly, and manufacturers generally specify jacks against particular lift models. The Katool KT-RJ70 is a clear example, listed for the KT-4H110, KT-4H950, and KT-4H850 lifts specifically. If you are buying a jack for a lift you already own, confirm the pairing before you order.
